Scouts Like Tyshawn Taylor's Speed, Improved Shooting Ability

Feb 28, 2012 4:05 PM

Tyshawn Taylor is averaging 17.1 points while shooting a career-high 44 percent from beyond the arc.

Taylor’s improved shooting and playmaking abilities have led some scouts to believe he could be a difference maker at the NBA level.

"He's got speed," said one NBA scout. "He plays hard. He's improved his jump shot. He's starting to make better decisions with the basketball. I really think he can help a team off the bench."

KU's Withey Moves Past Davis In Block Percentage

Feb 14, 2012 2:56 PM

With 16 blocks over his last two games, Jeff Withey of Kansas has overtaken Anthony Davis as the leader in block percentage from the major conferences at 15.01%.

Withey blocked nine shots in Monday’s win against Kansas State. He also blocked nine shots in December against Long Beach State. Withey has blocked three or more shots in just 12 of his 26 games, while Davis has three or more blocks in 24 of his 26 games.

Rhamel Brown of Manhattan and William Mosley of Northwestern State each have higher block percentages than Withey and Davis.

Anthony Stover of UCLA is blocking 5.97 shots per 36 minutes, but averages just 8.8 minutes per game. Davis ranks second in that category at 5.55 blocks.

Thomas Robinson Responds With Big Game After Talk With Bill Self

Feb 2, 2012 3:20 PM

Kansas coach Bill Self had a heart-to-heart talk with Thomas Robinson prior to Wednesday’s 84-62 rout of Oklahoma.

“Coach told me that I’m not playing like the player I’m capable of being,” Robinson said.

Robinson had scored 13 points with just seven boards in Saturday’s loss at Iowa State and looked a bit lethargic in three consecutive games.

“He’s been stressed all week complaining to me why I’m not being aggressive anymore,” Robinson said. “I just wanted to be aggressive from the jump tonight.”

Robinson responded with 20 points and 17 rebounds against Oklahoma.

“Thomas hadn’t been himself for the last three games,” Self said. “But he was tonight ... so positive and into it. In Ames and against (Texas) A&M and Texas ... he had so much going on with the anniversary (of his mom’s death). He was worried about missing shots. He didn’t get an offensive rebound against Iowa State. (If) the best rebounder in the country can’t get an offensive rebound, he is not being who he is. He did a better job going after the ball tonight, obviously. He got 17 rebounds.”
